According
to the 2000 US Census, the Burnet County/Llano County regional population grew at
two times the rate of growth for Texas making our region one of the fastest
growing areas in the state. Projections indicate that we will continue to
grow at a rate close to 50%.
Because county
governments in Texas lack the authority to regulate land use in the unincorporated areas
of the counties, we are at the mercy of those people who choose to develop that
land. Things like landfills, junk yards, adult video stores, and
unrestricted neighborhoods are just a few examples of the kinds of developments which
could negatively impact our quality of life.
Given this
inevitable growth and the lack of authority to either stop it or control it, the Hill
Country Economic Development Council has been formed as an association of
leaders from Burnet and Llano Counties to promote and encourage the
region's natural tendency to grow in a way which:
- compliments our
commerce base
- strengthens our economy
- shares our concern for the quality of life
- maintains the purity of our environment
- provides the best possible opportunity to enable our infrastructure to keep pace with
expansion
