During the past year the GAP
Analysis committee, together with experts from LCRA's Community and Economic Development
Department, has been working to develop two surveys, one for residents and one for
business owners. The surveys are intended to determine Gaps in our economy where
demand exists that is not being fulfilled by local companies. When the survey is
completed, a report of these Gaps will be made available to all of our member entities
such that they can work with existing businesses and endeavor to attract new businesses to
meet that demand.
The residential surveys were
originally intended to be distributed as an insert in local newspapers last September.
Logistical problems and concerns about the level of responce from this method of
distribution dictated reconsideration of the distribution strategy. Under the
leadership of recently appointed Chairwoman, Carolyn Derington, a new plan for the
distribution is emerging. Burnet ISD and Marble Falls ISD have both agreed to send
surveys home with students this fall. Llano ISD is offering their assistance as
well. The committee is currently considering other avenues for distribution of the
residential surveys due to the large number of residents without children in school.

The business surveys will be
distributed as inserts in the 5 Chambers of Commerce within our region. Again,
personal surveys will be conducted by volunteers at various service organization meetings
and on an individual basis.
